Just forget it.
Not only because you are not the only one offering this product or service on the planet, nor because there are others who have thought of it long before you and have worked hard just to get on the first page of google results for specific keywords... but also because to assume that there are 2-3 buttons that if your IT technician pushes will instantly take you to the top (and that, for some strange reason, the majority of your competition hasn't pushed) defies elementary rules of logic.
To take it a little more seriously, a website's search engine ranking depends on countless factors. No one is able to know exactly all the factors and the "specific weight" of each one, since - obviously - the algorithms of search engines such as Google and Bing, in addition to being multi-layered, are also "hidden". This, among other things, means that the best thing that professionals dealing with internet advertising can do is to implement a multitude of good practices that, based on their knowledge, available tools and experience in the field, will effectively help each client achieve their goals.
So, we can agree in principle that a client's goals should be determined in full cooperation with the IT professionals in order to be as realistic as possible and within the client's capabilities (because WYPIWYG or what you pay is what you get).
Beyond that, the factors to consider for a website's upward trajectory in search engines start with its very infrastructure - that is, how search engine friendly it is. This is achieved with the well-known, now, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) that must be done on every website in order to ensure an increase in its traffic and correspondingly an improvement in its organic ranking on Google (which at least in Greece holds the lion's share among many other search engines). For some websites (usually of a non-profit nature, such as a personal blog or an informational website that does not intend to make a profit from advertising) many times SEO is enough to get on the "map" of the internet. For the rest, who need to increase traffic in order to be able to make some profit in the future through the insertion of advertisements, or who are businesses that want to get their products or services out there, SEO is only the beginning!
Some of the next steps clearly include:
- the creation and management of Social Media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) that will boost the website and the company's activities in general, beyond its products/services.
- the creation and management of advertising campaigns both on google (via Google AdWords) and on the aforementioned social media (and especially on facebook which, whether we like it or not, is where most of the world is).
- the continuous, experienced and thorough analysis of the efficiency of the above two steps, because no matter how much time and money you spend on them, if you are not able to evaluate their effectiveness then you are walking into the blind.
More generally, it is good to keep in mind that coping with the demands of the above factors in order to have a good, steadily upward and efficient course for both the website and its social media pages, requires blood, tears and sweat. Appearing generally in google results is a matter of a few days from the moment you upload your website, but appearing on the first page and even in the first results requires a lot of time and very - very - careful moves. The same, of course, applies to increasing your reach on social media (or not?).
If you are looking for quick solutions, "shortcuts" or more... "cunning" practices, there will surely be someone to sell them to you, but know that it is mathematically certain that in the long run you will simply lose...
*originally, the title of this post was "How to get to the top of Google results in a week", which I thought was already an excessively small amount of time, but searching the web I found some people claiming to do it within two hours, so... I raised the bar!
